More ways to follow television and phone calls

Amplification is only one form of help

Captions and assistive listening devices offer additional ways to follow speech. Some systems work with hearing aids; others use a separate receiver. The right choice depends on the situation and equipment.

Television and public venues

Captions provide written dialogue alongside sound. Hearing loops, FM and infrared systems can deliver sound to compatible receivers in equipped locations. Ask the venue which system is available and what equipment is needed.

Phone conversations

Captioned telephones can display the other person's words while a conversation takes place. Text-based communication is another option. Availability and setup depend on the service and device.

Check before buying an accessory
